Wordmark

The artwork features a stylized version of the letter A, with a rounded crossbar that resembles both an eye and a compass. This duality represents the mixed feelings of optimism and fear that people have towards emerging technologies. The eye symbolizes vigilance and the idea of being watched, while the compass suggests a sense of direction and guidance. Together, these elements comment on the complex attitudes people have towards technology and its role in our lives.

Imagery

The imagery used in the identity was created using a script that converts photographs into a series of numbers and letters, creating a low-fidelity substitute for the original image. This process of mapping photos to quantitative values imitates biometric technology, which uses unique physical characteristics to identify individuals. By using this technique, the artwork highlights the way that biometric technology reduces people to a series of data points, rather than recognizing their humanity and individuality.

Booklet

The book features two types of writing: black text represents the thoughts and insights of a scientist, while blue text represents the perspective of an artist. By using different colors to distinguish between these two voices, the book highlights the different approaches and viewpoints that can be brought to bear on the subject of biometric data.
